Alameda Park has always been Marbella`s pride. This large green area, the city lung, dates back to the 18th century and in its best time it spread over an area of 20,000 sq meters (20% of the city centre). Its original design consisted of one main central and two lateral ones, six small squares with stone benches and a fountain which still exists today. It has undergone many a changes over the years until its present look. Some of the things that have disappeared are the niche that harboured the Alameda Christ, the Mentidero Cross and a pond. A variety of rubber plants can be seen in the park gardens, a magnificent specimen of Ficus Pandurata really stands out , there are also some species of pine trees such as the Pinus Pinae, not to mention a large variety of other valuable botanical species.
